Several Components of a Complex Service

Nixor has provided technological developments to Telefónica de Argentina since 1991, when the company was established in the country. In 1998 it became the group’s certified supplier.

In order to provide Transmission Network services, Telefónica has to manage a series of components that make up the company’s network infrastructure. When a client user needs a given type of service, components must be combined so that they may all meet the requirements, the functionalities of the service requested, and its provision.

The combination of transmission lines, optical fiber, and switching exchanges was traditionally made by hand, with a series of complex Excel spreadsheets designed by company experts who tried different variations until finding the most appropriate option. It was a tiresome and complex task, subject to the skill and mistakes of those performing it.

In 2002, Telefónica’s Network Administration and Management Department decided to implement a system capable of solving this question in a rapid and accurate way. This was the initial requirement for Nixor and the basis for developing the NAS architecture (Network Allocation System).
