The implementation of the first NAS version was completed in 2004. The system optimized Telefónica’s network allocation cycle by providing a faster response to network component combination requirements. On the one hand, it provides an analysis of the overall network, centralizing information that may be checked and updated in a fast way. It also offers layout selection processes that show all the ways and interconnections available. In addition, the system guarantees the quality and efficiency of the selected path.
Nixor carried out the development and implementation of the system jointly with members of Telefónica’s Networks Area, who served as a link between the consulting firm and the area’s end user.
Although a series of difficulties may arise in any project of this type regarding the volumes of information used and the number and complexity of technical processes involved, these were efficiently handled by Telefónica’s staff that interacted with Nixor’s developers and also trained the end users.
Both the architecture and the technological platform on which the application runs were defined by the company. The operating system is Windows Server 2003 and the database, MS SQL 2000, integrated with Microsoft Office tools. The NAS system has been developed in Visual Basic 6.0 and Crystal Reports is used as a report generation tool.
For the technical staff, the application designed by Nixor has been a positive change because, in the past, manual tests were performed in basic programs requiring a number of people working for several days. Now, NAS solves everything in a few minutes, with the added advantage of providing high quality information management and minimal error percentage.
Additionally, the system offers the possibility of carrying out tests, simulating different network contingency processes which are hard to realize or foresee as well as hard to resolve manually and using viable solutions.
